Why Burn Beeswax

Beeswax candles offer a beautiful rich sweet scent, a brilliant bright golden flame,
and the longest, cleanest burn of ANY candle.
The bees provide a wax making process that is 100% NATURAL. Beeswax is non-carcinogenic,
chemical free, and has a natural sweet smell that is derived from the honey.
Beeswax is a by-product of honey and is only made by the youngest of the honeybees
(under 17 days old), prior to them going out of the hive and foraging.  To produce their wax, the bees
gorge themselves on honey, eating 10 pounds of honey nectar (visiting over 33 million flowers
and 'tapping' well over 2 million of them!).  After several hours, the wax is secreted from their
abdomens.  Each bee then scrapes off the wax with her legs and chews it into tiny flakes that are
then used to build the honeycomb.
The majority of readily available candles are made from paraffiin or soy ... usually a combination of both.
Wikipedia's description of paraffin "Paraffin wax is a white or colorless soft solid
derivable from petroleum, coal or oil shale"
Paraffin wax is a by-product of fossil fuels, is very toxic and literally poisons the air you breath.
Imagine sucking down on the exhaust of a car or truck!
Burning paraffin candles releases at least 11 documented chemicals including benzene,
acetone, xylene, formaldehyde, toulene and acetaldehyde. Three of these chemicals
alone are KNOWN CARCINOGENS (cancer causing agents).

As 4th generation beekeepers, we have developed a huge respect to the land and environment and therefore, Palm Oil and Soy cultivation is a real moral issue for us here at HIVE AUSTRALIA.
Palm and Soy farming has an immediate and direct impact on the environment with SEVERE
ECOLOGICAL CONSEQUENCESDeforestation of some of the world’s oldest virgin rain forests
purely for cultivation has resulted in both significant acreage losses of natural habitats
which has threatened critically endangered species such as the Orangutan and Sumatran Tiger
as well as adversely impacting our global climate with increased greenhouse gas emissions.
Over 90% of Orangutan habitat has been destroyed in the last 20 years, and as such, is considered
“a conservation emergency” by the UN.  An estimated 1000-5000 orangutans are killed each
year for this development.  Additionally, the use of illegal immigrants in many of these
plantations results in hideous working conditions for these workers ... many of them children.
There is also well documented use of pesticides in both soy and palm plantations, and in many of these plantations there is widespread growth of genetically modified varieties. About 90% of the planted area of soybeans in the US are genetically modified varieties.
The majority of Soy and Palm wax candles are blended with Paraffin to assist them to burn.
International labelling requirements on Soy candles provide a 'loophole' to market the word 'pure' by requiring only 51% of the product to be Soy ... leaving the other 49% to be, well ... one can only guess!

Air contains billions of electrically charged (both positive and negative) particles called ions.  The ions in the air affect our mood, energy and health.  Positive ions attract pollution and allergens and once bonded with, remain circulating in the air.  Negative ions seperate the pollution and allergens from the positive ions, thereafter allowing them to fall harmlessly to the ground.

When burnt, beeswax candles produce negative ions which helps remove pollution and allergens from the air making it a cleaner and fresher enviroment for us all, particularly asthma and allergen sufferers.
Beeswax candles work in the same way as many air purifiers and filters by clearing the air of the dust, pollen and other suspended pollutants making the air clean and clear.

Finally, beeswax candles BURN LONGER (up to 70% longer) and BURN BRIGHTER and BURN CLEANER than any OTHER Candle !!
